JOSH EVIN: The Pride of the Koots.

Posted on June 15th, 2010 in Announcements, News, West Coast

Let me begin by informing you that Canadian Pro Skater Josh Evin is now presumed dead after a tragic motorcycle accident near his home in Nelson B.C. Him and a buddy were reportedly riding his motorcycle and hit a concrete barrier on a bridge. Both of them were sent off the bike, and Josh landed in the river below. BC Hydro has drained the river now but as of now they’re still recovering his body.  His passenger was rescued by passing motorists.

It’s not a blog posting that anyone wants to do, but I wanted to collect some thoughts about Josh from my experiences with him throughout my few years as his team manager for West 49.  He was invited to join the pro team in the mid 2000’s to bring his raw power to the West 49 Pro Team.  I remember watching him skate so hard at the world cup in Mississauga, ON yet still take the time to hang out with the hundreds of kids reaching over the glass. His free spirit was and is to be envied by us all, without a worry in the world it seemed,  the cup was always half full.  One Christmas, I sent all the boys presents, and of all he could ask for, he was so stoked that I actually tracked down a specific coleman lantern which he claimed was the perfect addition to his camping kit. I guess we were kindred spirits in that we both had a love for anything reckless letting the outdoors fuel our love for skateboarding.  Check his first ad out below, as it speaks to the power and quality of Josh Evin, a legend in our eyes. We’ll miss you buddy.
